NOTHING TO UNDERSTAND, IT'S JUST LOVE
EveryFebruary 14, the most romantic day of the year, Valentine's Day , arrives. A day to celebrate love: that powerful and wonderful force, that deep and passionate feeling that unites two souls. A day to enjoy the company of that person who is everything and fills your life with happiness.
"YOUR VALENTINE"
Tradition places St. Valentine, patron saint of lovers, in the Roman Empire of the third century, where the Emperor Claudius II forbade marriage to young soldiers because he considered it incompatible with the military, and because he believed that a man without a family would be more committed to his emperor in the heat of battle.
Valentinus, a doctor and priest, decided to celebrate, clandestinely, these marriages. But the emperor Claudius II soon found out and had him imprisoned. While in prison he fell in love with Julia, the judge's daughter, who had been born blind. Valentin prayed to God that the young woman would have the joy of being able to see.
"Maybe it's just a matter of finding
who keeps looking at you
when you close your eyes".
On February 14, 269 A.D., during his transfer to the public square for his execution, Valentinus is said to have handed a missive to the young Julia for her to read. She, not understanding anything, opened the paper and was able to read the last sentence which read. "From your Valentine", as a seal of love and last farewell.
THE GODDESS OF BUTTERFLIES
Legend has it, immortalized by Apuleius in his Metamorphosis (The Golden Ass), that Psyche, born as a mortal woman, possessed a supernatural beauty that rivaled that of Venus, and inspired the love of her son, Cupid, represented by a boy with wings and a bow with arrows that when shot at couples cause them to fall deeply in love.
Psyche, after completing the four trials required by Venus to win back Cupid, obtained immortality, becoming a goddess. The story of Psyche and Cupid symbolizes the search for eternity through romantic love.
"The gift of love is shy and never speaks its name,
and passes like a dart through the shadows, lavishing
along the dust a shiver of joy".
Psyche is represented with butterfly wings. Its origin can be found, on the one hand, in the belief that at death the soul leaves the body in the form of a butterfly; and, on the other hand, in the energy of love, which generates this process of transformation in lovers, as unique and beautiful as the metamorphosis of butterflies.
FAST LOVE
The romantic utopia of love is still present in our society and in our life projects, but the pace of external stimuli, the increasing digitalization of relationships through social networks or applications such as Tinder or Bumble, make it difficult to establish lasting bonds, remaining on a virtual plane, as if it were a game.
Have we changed "fast food" for "fast love"?
In our day-to-day life everything goes very fast and we are used to the immediacy of things, but love is a process that simmers, as Rosana sang. However, many relationships imitate what is already present in almost all areas: the utilitarianism of a liquid society eager for novelties.
Nor can we forget the metaverse, that parallel reality that gives you the possibility to reinvent yourself, to be another person and live another life, other relationships, but without hugs and caresses... Is that what we want?
BUTTERFLIES IN THE STOMACH
Love is the best antidote for suffering, a chemical storm of adrenaline, capable of provoking unique sensations in our body such as the famous "butterflies in the stomach".
We are aware that Disney and the romantic movies we have seen throughout our lives have made us idealize love, presented almost always as a passionate and overwhelming feeling that arises instantly.

And is she pretty?
Yes, you are very pretty."
Real love is not only those butterflies, nor a padlock, nor flowers, nor a day on the calendar... Love is union, understanding, admiration, dedication..., even sometimes sacrifice, as Plato said. But today is Valentine's Day, and there are no reasons or time to understand... when what you feel is love and only love.
