International Friendship Day is celebrated worldwide onJuly 30 to address poverty, human rights violations and crises that threaten peace, security and social harmony by promoting friendship and solidarity.

HISTORY

The United Nations General Assembly designated in 2011 the International Day of Friendship at the proposal of the World Friendship Crusade organization whose motto is "For a better and more humane world". To commemorate this day, the UN encourages initiatives that contribute to the international community's efforts to promote dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

"When greed prevails over concern for the health of our planet and its inhabitants, when fanatical attachment to an ideology is maintained at all costs, and when people's human rights are violated because they are considered somehow inferior, what is betrayed is the heritage of humanity and what is endangered is our future well-being. On this International Day of Friendship, let us resolve to value and cultivate as many loving relationships as possible, which will enrich our lives and contribute to a better future."

THE MEANING OF FRIENDSHIP

Friendship is something primordial, inherent to our life from its beginnings. A feeling of pure, noble and valuable personal affection between human beings all over the world; a need to adapt to the outside world, to preserve peace and social harmony.

If we look around us, many of the friendships that surround us today were the result of chance, fortunate and unexpected discoveries that have brought us moments of wonderful happiness. Relationships based on love, loyalty, sincerity and commitment: friends "without tariffs".

Marián Rojas Estapé, psychiatrist and writer, affirms that we need vitamin people, those friends who inject us with enthusiasm, optimism and well-being when we are with them. As a result of the movie CHAIN OF FAVORS , released in 2000, a beautiful phenomenon of solidarity arose on social networks to which thousands and thousands of people joined with the sole purpose of helping those in need.

In these times of severe humanitarian crises, we cannot neglect solidarity among individuals and peoples. The UN recognizes in its Millennium Declaration that solidarity is one of the essential values of relationships, emphasizing the importance of helping others and thus contributing to creating a better society.

Individualism, selfishness, competition for resources, have led us to the difficult and unsustainable situation we are in. Recovering this value can help us to get out of it, to change things. Only in this way will we get things to change and the world to become a better place to live in."
